the theme of night

The theme of night I think is that the cruelty of man is unknown. The level of human cruelty can be pushed to an unknown extent when the situation provokes it. Some accounts of this inhuman cruelty is when the guards at the camp were throwing innocent babies into the fire, and the unnesissary brutality of the gaurds in the camps to the prisioners.I feel the theme teaches us that we need to learn from the Holocaust of the cruelty of man so we can understand how inhuman and cruel people can become. With understanding this we can try to make sure such an atrocity never happens again.

Number 3= Stein of Antwep was a small fellow with spectles in a wizened face. Stein was Reizel's husband, Elie's moms was rezeils aunt. Stein was curius on how his children are doing, wondering if Elie's dad had heard any news of them. I feel that this shows that this is happening in other places not just in Sighet.
-family member
-wanted to know about family
-Elie lies saying that they were ok and happy
-Stein eventually dies because of knowing truth.

1=Concentration Camps= sky hazy with smoke.
-flames-crematoriums
-transformation in the prision garb
-gray and dark
-babies in the fire
-peoples face turn to ash
-nocturnal silence

2= Dehumanization=
-shaved heads
-all expected to wear prison garb
-made stand in mud
-tattooed numbers-lost name
-removed objects from
-people were objects
-detached from family
-make them run to be overcome by fatique/loose train of thought
-had to deal with death themselves

The fire symbolizes...

-upcoming danger
-burning of loss faith
-unpredictable/fear of unknown
-crematoriums/death
-destruction
-chaos
-conflicts
Fire Symbolized

I believe that the fire she is seeing symbolizes the horrible things that are to come. It is possible that she has a feeling that bad things will happen and once she starts seeing the flames I feel she is so histerical from being separated from her family the only way she shows that she was scared was by yelling fire.

Foreshadowing

When Moishe comes back to the ghetto, he tells the other jewish people was horrific events he witnessed. this hints that the other jews in the ghetto might have the same fate as the people Moishe talked about.

When the Jews got relocated for the second time, living conditions once again got worse. This could possibly hint at that living conditions could get worse once again the next time they get relocated.

When the jews were cramped into ghettos, it shows the progression of the violation of rights.

When the jewish council leader could not speak about the future it shows that the German's brutality is growing.

Father's face was pale when he found out about the transports.

Elie's father's Hungarian police friend came to worn then of what is to come.

Father eventually dies as stated in Elie's thoughts.

Jews coudn't imagine anything worse then waiting in line.

Claim: John was a skilled hunter.

Quote: "I did not even see the panther spring upon the white fawn. But, before I knew it, the bow was in my hand."

Dab:John tells us early in his journey this happened:"I did not even see the panther spring upon the white fawn. But, before I knew it, the bow was in my hand."

Dollop:We already know that John is a priest and on his journey to find the truth. We then find out that he is a very skilled hunter. This trait of John is reveled to us by this quote:"I did not even see the panther spring upon the white fawn. But, before I knew it, the bow was in my hand."

Lotsa Sause:So far in the story we know many traits of John because of what he has done in his journey and what is revealed to use through dialoge. We then find out that John is a skilled hunter while fasting. He was heading east in the forest when he came across a panther. We learn these things through this quote:"I did not even see the panther spring upon the white fawn. But, before I knew it, the bow was in my hand."

Commentary: He shouted and the panther lifted his head from the fawn. It is not easy to kill a panther with one arrow but the arrow went through his eye and into his brain. He died as he tried to spring. Obviously John needs to be a very skilled hunter because he killed a panther with one arrow never the less shooting it through the eye and into the brain.

Harrison Bergeron Movie Comments

After watching approximately 20 minutes of the movie, I feel that I dont like it as much as I lilked the short story. I feel that the movie could illustrate all the handicapes in more creative ways. While reading the book it let your imagination take over with all the different handicapes but while watching the movie most people just had the basic transmitter on their heads to make them not as smart. I didnt see many diferent physical handicapes on the people in the movie but while reading the short story I was under the impression that everyone had many different handicapes to make them equal. I feel that the movie is doing a good job making the story in movie form and I am excited to watch more of the movie and compare it to the short story.

Claim: Finally equality was accomplished by the year 2081 by using handicaps.

Quote: The year was 2081, and everybody was finally equal.

Commentary: They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else.

Claim:He thought of all the evenings he had spent away from her, working, and he regreted them.

Quote:Then with full power, with every last scrap pf stength he could bring to bear, he shot his arm forward toward the glass, and shouted "Clare!"

Commentary:He truly regrets not spending enough time with his wife and risks his life in order to spend more time with her.

Claim:In the initial pages of this short story, Tom Benecke's avaricious nature drives him to follow the yellow sheet of paper on the ledge of his apartment.

Quote:"You wont mind though, will you, when the money comes rolling in and I'm known as the Boy wizard of Wholesale Groceries?

Commentary:Tom has put hard work into that paper and he cares about money and supporting him and his wife and to him without that yellow paper he could not get the money he desires.

I liked it alot.

It was my first time at the infamouse Outback Steakhouse. I enter and a huge inviting wiff of delicious barbaque shrimps delightful amell enters my nose. I sprint over to a table with a man holding a burger. I violently grab the burger and felt the soft greesey wet bun in my scaley dry hands. I attack the unexpeted burger with my mouth tasting every individual component of the burger. The sweet and salty tastle leaves my mouth happy and savory. I was in love.

I was suprised.

I walked up the stairs to my house looking down at my feet. I felt sad because of how my day was going so far. I opended the door felling the cold steel knob on my warm hand. As I entered lights suddenly exploded on blinding me as I close my eyes. I feel suprised but mostly scared because closing my eyes just made the frightening SUPRISE!!! seem so much louder. I look at the happy croud of people and say "go home."
